How to win at the kitchen
Tip of the day
In this video from the Pickleball Playbook, Austin shares specific shots designed to deceive opponents when at the kitchen.
These shots range from easy to challenging, and Austin explains not only what these shots are but also how to execute them.
The first shot, the backhand roll with a lob arc, is uncommon but can be a game-changer if used strategically.
Austin emphasizes the importance of the Continental grip, inverting the wrist, and maintaining a straight arm through the motion for this shot.
The second set of shots includes the Kyle Yates and the Houdini.
The Kyle Yates involves pretending to hit a backhand dink and then flipping to hit a forehand on the backhand side.
The Houdini is a forehand speed-up executed with the non-dominant arm.
The final shot, Austin's favorite, is a forehand slice speed up down the line, which works especially well when dinking crosscourt forehand to forehand.
Key Points
Mastering deceptive shots can significantly enhance your pickleball game.
The backhand roll with a lob arc requires a Continental grip and a straight arm throughout the shot.
The Kyle Yates and the Houdini shots involve deceiving the opponent with unexpected arm movements.
