The New Trick to Reducing Stress Without Losing Focus

Burnout and stress can make it hard to focus and keep up at work. That pressure builds, creating a cycle that’s tough to break.

If you’re looking for a way to ease workplace stress without feeling drowsy, try CBDistillery’s Daytime Calm gummies.

Each serving contains 50mg of CBG, a non-intoxicating compound derived from hemp, formulated to support calm and daytime focus.

In a 2022 CBDistillery study, CBG was associated with:

  • Increased focus and mental clarity

  • Reduced mild, temporary anxiety

Like all CBDistillery products, Daytime Calm gummies are third-party lab tested for quality and consistency.

Tip of the day

Most volley errors are decided before you ever swing. Pro Catherine Parenteau says the fix starts with where your paddle sits between shots.

Imagine standing in the middle of a clock face. Aim your paddle at 11 o'clock, slightly toward your backhand side if you are right handed.

That position covers your face when a ball comes fast at your head, and it keeps you ready with the backhand. Around 80 percent of balls hit straight at your body are easier to defend with the backhand.

If you wait at 1 o'clock on the forehand side instead, your elbow gets in the way on body balls. A forehand dug out at the belly button also sends the paddle upward, which pops the ball up with it.

Volleys are also the moment to firm up your grip. A loose grip is right for touch shots, but in a fast volley exchange it cannot generate enough power.

Keep the swing compact in both directions. A big backswing feels powerful, but it costs you the sweet spot, and a mishit has no power or accuracy at all.

Parenteau's cue is catching a tossed ball. From 11 o'clock you simply open your wrist to face the ball and meet it out in front; you never draw your hand back first.

Drill it from inside the kitchen first, purely as an exercise. Hit short, compact volleys and return your paddle to 11 o'clock after every single hit.

Then back up behind the kitchen line. You will feel like you have more time, but more time is not a reason to add more swing.

Key points

  • Hold your paddle at 11 o'clock between every shot so your backhand covers your face and body.

  • About 80 percent of balls hit straight at your body are easier to defend with a backhand than a forehand.

  • Grip firmer on volleys than on dinks and drops, because a loose grip cannot generate power in fast exchanges.

  • Keep the backswing and follow through short; big swings miss the sweet spot and lose both power and accuracy.

  • Meet the volley like you are catching a tossed ball, wrist open to the ball and contact out in front.
