How to defend overheads 🛡️
Tip of the day
In today’s video, BK from Cliff Pickleball teaches how to defend against overhead smashes.
He says the first step is to know when a smash is coming.
When you see the ball go high, get ready to defend.
BK suggests standing with your feet apart and bending your knees to get low.
This helps you be ready for the ball that comes down fast.
He also says to use your backhand (the side of your hand opposite your thumb) to hit the ball back because it's stronger.
BK tells us to step back a little from the net to see the ball better and have more time to hit it back.
He also says to watch the other player's shoulders to guess where the ball will go.
When you hit the ball back, keep your hands soft and relaxed to make the ball go slow and low over the net.
Key points:
Know when an overhead smash is coming and get ready.
Stand with feet apart and bend your knees to get low.
Use your backhand to hit the ball back.
Step back from the net for more time to see and hit the ball.
Watch the other player's shoulders to guess where the ball will go.
Keep your hands soft and relaxed to hit the ball back gently.
