Tip of the day
In today’s video, Pro Zane Navratil questions the usual pickleball tip to "stop and hit" and suggests a new method called "gather and hit."
The old advice was given to help beginners who often run through their shots, losing control.
But, stopping completely might make it hard to keep moving towards the net after hitting the ball.
To explain "gather and hit," Zane uses a ball machine to simulate situations where you'd run forward to hit the ball and uses a full water bottle to show how to manage momentum.
When you "stop and hit," your momentum keeps going, spilling water from the bottle, showing that your body's momentum isn't well controlled.
The "gather and hit" method involves slowing down in a controlled way to keep the water in the bottle, showing better balance and control of your movement.
This approach helps you stay balanced while making your shots and keeps you moving forward smoothly toward the net.
It's beneficial when moving through the transition zone or when you're stretched wide.
The key idea is to control your momentum like water in a bottle, ensuring you're balanced for every shot you take.
Key Points
