Should you attack ⚔️ or reset?🛡️
Tip of the day
An important aspect of gameplay is determining the right moment to attack or reset during a rally.
An attack refers to aggressively speeding up or driving the ball with speed and power to gain the upper hand.
On the other hand, resetting is playing a softer, controlled shot, aiming to place the ball in the kitchen area, allowing players to reposition and regain control of the point.
A significant decision point arises during the third shot after a serve.
The choice of shot—whether to attack or reset—is heavily influenced by the quality and type of the opponent's return.
For instance, if the opponent delivers a deep return with a topspin, pushing you onto your back foot, you should reset by dropping the ball softly into the kitchen.
Conversely, if the opponent's return is lofty and short, it presents an ideal opportunity to capitalize by attacking, especially if the opponent is still transitioning to the kitchen line.
Key Points:
Attack Strategy: Aggressively drive the ball using speed and power to gain a strategic advantage in the rally.
Reset Strategy: Deliver a controlled, softer shot into the kitchen, allowing for repositioning and regaining control.
Third Shot Dynamics: The third shot's strategy is heavily influenced by the opponent's return quality.
Deep, Topspin Return: Advisable to reset by softly dropping the ball into the kitchen.
Lofty, Short Return: Ideal for an aggressive attack, especially targeting opponents still moving towards the kitchen.
