James Ignatowich Teaches Aggressive Dinking in Pickleball (World Ranked #9)

In this instructional video, top-10 professional pickleball player James Ignatowich demonstrates the technique and strategy behind hitting an aggressive dink at the kitchen line.

Aggressive dinks should be aimed deeper when taken out of the air to push an opponent off the line, making them hesitant to lean in for a potential speed-up.

However, a shallow dink should be used defensively to neutralize the point when an opponent is aggressively leaning forward.

For proper topspin technique, James advocates finishing the swing on the same side of the body with a locked but loose wrist, which maintains consistency and prevents "windshield wiper" motions.

The most common mistakes include not using enough knee bend, letting the ball drop too low instead of meeting it at its apex, and breaking the wrist too much.

Key Points:

Aggressive dinks should be aimed deep to push opponents off the kitchen line.
Use a shallow dink to neutralize the rally when opponents are leaning in aggressively.
To generate topspin, finish the swing on the same side of the body with a locked wrist.
The two-handed backhand dink should prioritize the non-dominant hand and a low squat.
Always bend your knees to get below the ball and keep the paddle face above your hand.
