Tip of the day

This video explores high-level offensive kitchen strategy, focusing on targets and setups to create attacking opportunities.

The primary goal of offensive dinking is to set yourself up for topspin dinks, which is the most aggressive shot you can hit while still behind the ball.

When playing a righty-lefty team, you should first identify the opponents' dominant sides to know where to attack.

A highly effective tactic is to roll the ball to the opponent’s backhand on the outside of the court to force them into a defensive position.

Throw a couple of dinks into the middle to observe which opponent is more dominant and then start targeting the inside foot of the less offensive player.

If you are pushed off the non-volley zone line, always hit your dink back toward the middle to allow you to close in and regain a good countering position safely.

When attacking, the highest percentage targets are the opponent's "chicken wing" on the sidelines or the crosscourt waist area, avoiding the middle-middle zone where paddles naturally intercept.

By continually hitting wide and deep dinks, you are more likely to receive a "dead" or popped-up ball, giving you the perfect chance to speed up or roll an offensive dink.

Key Points:

  • Prioritize using topspin dinks for aggressive offensive play at the net.

  • Target the opponent's wide backhand to push them off the court and force a defensive shot.

  • Dink to the middle to identify the weaker or less offensive player, then target their inside foot.

  • When forced back from the kitchen line, dink to the middle to recover your court position.

  • For speed-ups, target the opponent’s "chicken wing" (shoulder/waist) or crosscourt, avoiding the middle-middle.

  • Keep pressure on the opponent by mixing up your shots to force "dead" dinks that set up an attack.
